About the Nockamixon Sail Club
The Nockamixon Sail Club was formed in 1974 to organize and promote the sport of competitive sailing at Lake Nockamixon. The Lake covers 1450 acres and sits within the Nockamixon State Park in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, near Quakertown. One-Design and Multi-Fleet sailboat racing is scheduled almost every weekend between April and October, including 7 monthly Invitational Regattas, and other special events.
Fleet racing takes place with separate starts for each One-Design Fleet that has four, or more, boats on the water. Several "Series" of races are held each year, including the Club Championship Series which is held on the dates of the NSC Invitational Regattas.
NSC Racing Fleets include: Flying Scot, Thistle, Impulse 21, and a “Portsmouth” mixed-boat Fleet.
The “Cruising” arm of the Nockamixon Sail Club was formed in 2004 to provide an opportunity for pleasure sailing and “low-key” competition at the Lake for those sailors who do not care to participate in the more competitive “round the buoys” racing. Membership is open to sailors and non-sailors, boat owners, and non-owners – anyone interested in learning, or enhancing, their sailing knowledge and skills. The Cruising activities at NSC provide something for everyone interested in the more relaxed side of the sport of sailing.
All Cruising events are socially-oriented fun activities geared toward building sailing skills and techniques. They include fun competitions, social Cruises, seasonal Raft-Ups, moonlight sails, and Picnics under the Club Tents after most events.
NSC Cruising Fleets include: Catalina 22, Flying Scot, Hunter, O’Day, Mariner, Compac, and Precision – all Club boats are welcome to participate in all Cruising events.
All Members of the Club, both Racers and Cruisers, may participate in the many Social Activities, Training Programs, and Picnics which follow every event. Invitational Regattas, and special race events, such as the Annual NSC “ULDB” Regatta, provide great opportunities for sailing fun and socializing between Club Members and Visiting sailors. You do not have to own a boat to enjoy the benefits of belonging to NSC. The Club has some limited opportunities where qualified Members may be able to sail as crew on a wide variety of boats in both Cruising and Racing Events.
A group of member volunteers, the Fleet Council, led by the NSC Commodore, along with many members coordinate, organize and enjoy these numerous activities.
Nockamixon Sail Club has two levels of membership. Sailors who participate in the full “Racing” program pay higher dues than those who participate in the “Cruising” program. Both levels of membership include copies of the Club Newsletter, the “COMPASS,” and participation in all of the social programs and training programs of the Club. Voting rights in NSC are proportional to dues paid.
