Bottom Painting - Percision 165 Sailboat
About the third week in March (2010) I took my sailboat down to Highway Marina on 309 to have the bottom painted. Around April 12th I called to see how the project was going. They told me they didn't start it yet but would have it finsihed by the next week, which would be today, he said he doesn't like jobs sitting round that long so he'll get right on it. I still don't have the boat yet. I don't want to make a pest of myself but what do you think, are thay that busy that it takes so long to paint the botton, I mean we're talking about a good 30 days at least.... Any advice?
I didn't pay yet, not until job is done. and yes, I do have the card.
It is also past the week they promished it would be done. I'm thinking about calling them to tell them I am going to take the boat home, unpainted.. They give me the they have no intention on doing it, and they do seem to be short handed. Have you ever tried to call them... usally I get put on hold then after listening to their onhold music for awhile I get disconnected. And by the way, our friend Captain Ron is no longer with them, of course that is just gossip.
For as many sailboats using the lake you would think there would be a closer sailboat shop, closer then the one in Glen Gardner, NJ and the one on 309, but they are really just for Motorboats.

My advice is to ask for a reasonable firm finish date. If it's not done by then, I'd take it to the shop in Glen Gardner. As much as it cost to have this type of work done, you deserve better treatment.
I've often wondered why there is not a closer sailboat shop to the lake!
Thank You 'resail' for the positive comment.
Hello
I'm planning on getting my boat bottom painted at the end of the season. Did highway marine finally get it done for you? Were you pleased with the results? Did you request a specific bottom paint color, do they offer different bottom paint color options?
Thanks for your reply
Jim
If I had to do it over again I would use Glen Gardner... While waiting for mine to be done or even getting started on, I called Glen Gardner and for a little more money They would of done a better job. Their sailboat people anyway. I think Highway only put two coats on however Glen Gardner does three coats, the first one is gray then the two final coats. You know when it's time to repaint when the gray starts to show. Another got-ya with Highway is they charge extra for white paint. By the way, I asked Highway for shinny white, they call it brilliant white which also cost me more money. I alway hate the hidden costs...
I do have Highways discount card (Gold Card). The 10% discount is based on past purchases you made. So since the paint job was around 400$ I have 40$ that I can use on my next purchase.

Thanks for the information on bottom painting from Highway Marine - I guessing you can request a specific bottom top color if you want - like I would want to paint mine the same bottom pant light blue I currently have on my boat now.
Thanks Jim
Diane Paxton stated we get a 10% discount if you mention the sail club. Did you?
