Frostbite Series Racing - Weather Planning

By gbonner - Posted on 07 April 2011

It's finally time to pull off those winter covers. The racing season is about to begin, with the first frostbite race less than two weeks away. As you've probably heard by now, we have built some flexibility into the frostbite series races days this year. In an attempt to improve safety and participation, the frostbite races may be held on either weekend day, depending on weather forecast. The racing calendar shows the scheduled, default date. The alternate date is contingent on the park not having a conflicting event. I will send a notice via NSCPA specifying which day the race will be held by 7:00 pm on the Thursday before. This will hopefully balance adequate notice to racers and race committee, and a forecast close enough to the event to be somewhat accurate. Races held on Saturday will follow the Saturday schedule of a 10:00 am skippers meeting and 11:00 am warning signal, and races held on Sunday will follow the Sunday schedule of an 11:00 am skippers meeting and 12:00 pm warning signal.

This new way of allowing the Frostbite race day to change based on weather may not be a good idea on Easter, which is April 24.

Just a thought, but any of you that can pull off racing on Easter, my hat is off to you!
