Non Ethanol Gasoline?
Does anyone know of a local source for gasoline that does not contain ethanol?
Thanks, Gil
Interestingly, while fueling my truck this morning at WAWA, I noticed the fine print on the label that says "Contains 10% Ethanol". Directly under this, it said "Boat owners: please request information on ethanol and its effects on boat engines before using" or something to that effect; in other words, don't use with boat motors! Never noticed that on the label before!

Very interesting indeed. This is a problem indeed. I was at West Marine today and talked about the ethanol issue and no one knew of any local source for non ethanol fuel. BUT, the told me about another additive that is supposed to be the best one out there yet - better than blue Stabil. It is called Valve-Techt and I bought a bottle for 11.99. I am putting some new fuel in my tank tomorrow with this stuff.
The government has caused a lot of problems with the methanol business. Also, did you know that the Federal government has the small motor manufacturers seal off with a plug the carb idle adjustment screws in our motors? An un named perosn removed mine so the idle could be tweaked.

Chemical Engineer at work and I were discussing the liquid-liquid extraction process. Ethanol testers actually use the same theory.
Are you the Coyote or the Road Runner? Did you own a Susie Bake Oven?
Liquid-Liquid Extraction Test
Step 1 - add a known volume of water to a test jar.
Step 2 - add a known volume of gasoline, mix with the water, and allow to settle
Step 3 - separate the gasoline from the water (you will lose a little) The water volume should be greater than at the start (Step 1) - this verifies the Ethanol has been removed from the mixer.
Step 4 - repeat Step 1 and Step 2 - volume of water should not increase if Ethanol has been removed.
You now have a gasoline mixer without Ethanol. No information on how other additives react with water during the liquid-liquid extraction process.
Getting out the Ball Jar tonight to test. Here comes the Coyote!!
SUMMARY COMMENT
Interesting concluson on experiment when applied to an oil/ gas mixture. When the water was added to extract the Ethanol the water reacted with the Ethanol as before. But this time with oil present the water no only extracted the Ethanol but a jelly type reaction took place in the water, not the remaining gas. Is this the issue with Ethanol in a two-stroke mixture? This reaction will form in your carburator, etc. Is this what clogs or makes your engine fail? All I can say is I have removed my Ethanol from my 3 gallon tank. I will see if this helps.
Extracting the Ethanol from an oil/ gas mixture is very easy as the gas is blue in color and easy to see the clear water.
P.S. My brother says that a station above Allentown sells Ethanol free gas for about $3 per gallon. I will try and find the location.
TEST DATA
Results Test 1, May 3, 2010, 5:00 pm
Glass mug, added 1 inch of water, added gasoline to top (about 3/4 cup), stirred.
Water level now 1-1/4 inch, mixture needs to settle more to clear up gasoline layer. Water is in base of glass mug (used a NSC sailing mug from 1980's - seem to be a correct choice).
Tomorrow we will re-test with water to see if level does not change proving Ethanol was removed in Test 1
All ACME products were used during the course of this test.
P.S. NSC does not endorse this test in anyway.
May 4, 6:00am
Test mug cleared up - 1-1/4 inch of water mixture with clear gasoline above. Gasoline is very clear, like old 'white' gas of the 1960-80's. Yellow color is not present.
May 5, 6:00 am
Re-ran water extraction on product - this cycle no increase in water level - conclude Ethanol has been removed.
May 5 6:00 pm
Run gas on lawn mower -ran just fine.
SUCCESS!!
Citgo stations may be Ethanol free blends. Someone will need to stop and check - Main St. Sellersville or Tilghman Street, Allentown
I do not live anywhere near there, so it would be great if some of you in the Lehigh Valley residents would check!
Thanks in advance, Gil
I'll try to check the Tilghman Street location in Allentown on my way to work tomorrow. Will report back with my findings!

I never got a chance to check out the Tilghman Street location, but I did find a station that sells Ethanol free gasoline. Gary's Gulf station in Emmaus, on Emmaus Avenue, just past the I-78 underpass. There is a big sign out front that indicates they sell Ethanol free. Filled up my boat tank and truck tank tonight. If anyone needs more specific directions, let me know.
Ralph
Excellent news . . . I might be making the trip to Emmaus. Thanks for checking.
Here is a good website that lists stations that sell ethanol-free gasoline:
http://pure-gas.org/
and here is a map showing the stations:
http://pure-gas.org/extensions/map.html
There are none right around Nock, but a trip to one of the stations
is worth it for anyone that will be getting gasoline for their boat.

Articles talk about water being used to remove the ethanol.
