Portsmouth Fleet Sunday Series - First Race Day for 2010 - O'Day Fleet shows off!!
The Portsmouth Fleet held the first Sunday race for 2010. The invite to members of NSC to try racing in 2010 was answered by the O'Day Fleet. Bill Hall, David Greenberg, Joe Cehlar and Marsh Cooper as skippers came out to race! The winds were kind and friom the NW, a few clouds, cool temp's and fast water - the right formula for trying racing.
Bill Hall took off in the first race - first to round the windward mark, just ahead of Craig Tourtellott. Craig just said, "I have trained you too much in 2009." The O'Days enjoyed their first date of racing in 2010. We had two basic rules - Port/Starboard and avoidance. We discussed the course, the start and the finish. The first two races were TW and TWW. The last race was our new formatted "LD" course or long distance - down to the Fishing Pier and back.
I was glad to see some members of NSC try the 2010 format of open racing for members. If we can continue this on more dates - it will be a success for 2010. If we need to adjust the format, we will do that also.
If you ever wished to try racing, then 2010 is the year to try it. Come out and try your sailing the racing marks. It will help anyone learn to sail better, maybe or maybe not. Your choice and option.
Thanks, from the Portsmouth Fleet
Just want to add my Thanks to Portsmouth Fleet Captain Craig Tourtellott for a very well run Sunday Portsmouth Series Race.
It was great to see so many boats lining up for rolling starts. I look forward to this concept catching on as an NSC recurring event.
