Sail and Learn: Mast Tuning
Mast Tuning Basic Training
This is to announce that this Saturday May 8th at 4:30 PM we will have the second “Sail & Learn” event. This week’s “Sail & Learn” is focused on Mast tuning basics. Now that you hopefully have your sailboat in the water it is time to tune it up so she sails well. Mast tuning is very confusing to many. A lose rig will cause your boat to have excessive heeling and could cause possible rig failure. A sailboat with properly tuned rigging can sail to her potential. The mast tuning presentation will cover basics like rigging terminology, what is weather helm and how to optimize it, what is mast rake and how to optimize it, how to understand and optimize mast bend, how to tension your stays and shrouds properly, and how to adjust the tuning of your sailboat in different sailing conditions to achieve maximum performance. If you would like to learn about how to tune your mast please plan to attend the next “Sail & Learn” on mast tuning. This “Sail & Learn” will take place at the Environmental Education Center. Please see directions below.
My presentation on mast tuning presentation and discussion will take 45-60 minutes. After the mast tuning presentation, we will have a social gathering of our members in the Education Center. Please feel free to bring your own refreshments. People are also encouraged to bring a food item to share. This is an opportunity to meet up with your sail club friends. Some people may want to link up and sail either before or after the “Sail & Learn” event. One of the primary purposes of “Sail & Learn” events is to allow our members to meet up and get to know each other so if you like to hang around sailors, please join us.
I hope to see many of you at the next “Sail & Learn” program on mast tuning basics. If you have any questions please let me know.
Happy sailing.
