Sail and Learn: VHF
VHF training.
The subject of this week’s Sail & Learn will be use of VHF radios on Lake Nockamixon. We have been promoting the use of VHF radios on Lake Nockamixon for several years now and I am happy to report that use of VHF radio is increasing. Use of VHF radio makes boating safer and more fun since you can communicate ship to ship, ship to land, and land to ship. Please come to this Sail & Learn focused on VHF radios, and learn what the requirements are on Lake Nockamixon for VHF radios, and how you can benefit by their use. We will go over many aspects of VHF radio use on Lake Nockamixon including weather channels, how to get help in an emergency, how to properly hail another vessel, what stations to use, what stations are designated as working stations on Lake Nockamixon, how to do a radio check, distress calling procedures, and suggestions for what features are most important if you are considering purchase of a VHF radio. This Sail & Learn will take place in the trailer parking lot at 4:30 PM on Saturday 12 June. I hope to see you all there. Please bring a drink and food to share and a lawn chair in case we cannot get enough picnic tables.
Happy sailing,
Mike Brown
