Wet and Wild *** Fun Day at the lake this past Saturday!
If you did not get wet Saturday afternoon you missed out on all of the fun! At 2:00, I radioed our Fun Event Captain Craig Tourtellott from the Race Committee Boat and asked him which marks we should use for the Water Cannon fun race. Two seconds later Mark Feffer sailing his Mariner “Finally” radioed back “we don’t need, no stinkin marks” everyone laughed and the Water Cannon Fun began! This fun event was a test of our quick maneuvering sailing skills, Rules of the Road skills (?), or just trying to avoid running into each other as we sailed next to each other to fire our water cannons! Four year old Enzo Prozzillo from Paul’s Impulse 21 shouts out “Don’t shot me, shot my daddy” then Enzo shots his water gun at his dad and the rest of us fired our water guns at Paul. Poor Paul got extra wet. Enzo was very entertained and laughing each time his dad got wet! Thank goodness Kevin Docherty crewed with me on my Precision 18“Sail La Vie!” he was in charge of firing our water cannons. It’s tricky to sail and fire your water cannons, but Theo Petron is the master! Theo single handled his Montgomery 23 “Sails Increase” and quickly maneuvered along side of our sailboats and fired his water cannon… Aaaarrrrgggghhhh! that sneaky Pirate sailboat! Then we were joined by Craig Tourtellott, he hosed us down with his specially designed 20 gallon water tank with non-stopping soaking action from the club’s chase boat!!
Check out Craig’s video of the Water Cannon Race:
Not to be up staged, Brownie Brownell had two water tanks full of cold, cold water, along with his crazy crew they sailed along side of us in his Starwind 22“Darling” and fired their freezing cold water tank cannons. This was Jim Wambold and Linda Brown’s first water cannon event, Linda kept hiding in their MacGregor 22“Midlife” cabin to avoid getting wet….silly girl! Everyone had a blasted, even Aaron & Sue Welerstein joined the fun in their Flying Scot “Ding Bang” along with Warren Rosen and his crew in his Thistle after the Saturday Portsmouth Race. I understand that several members repeated the Water Cannon fun Sunday afternoon! I heard that Laurine Valenti and Jim Thompson got soaked on their Catalina 22 “Double Trouble” by Theo’s water cannon! The next Water Cannon Race will be re-scheduled for August 20th instead of the 21st since several of the racing members enjoy bringing out their water weapons and joining us after their Saturday race.
After we dried off we joined Mike Brown at the park’s E center for an interesting Intro to Celestial Navigation presentation at 4:30. Later we all met our Raft Captain Bill Pfanstiel at Compac Cove at 6:30. Brownie Brownell set his anchor. We had about 9 sailboats rafted up to share lots of good food and cold drinks as we enjoyed a relaxing fun evening with our sail club friends.
